Thomas Sowell of RealClearPolitics wrote a great piece titled the Fairness Fraud which talks about the class warfare coming from the left. I think this is very relevant now that we are seeing this "occupy" crowd of idiots pushing fairness while droning on and on about taking somebody elses money.
I have never been able to grasp the lefts notion of income inequality mainly because I don't care. The lowest of the low living in a cardboard box under a bridge can pick himself up, get into college and better himself and his life of ending up living in box had nothing to do with the rich. Granted it may be easier to get into Harvard or Yale if you are wealthy but you still have to work your ass off. Are there other ways to help the downtrodden earn success?
Sowell makes an interesting point here:
Countries whose politicians have been able to squander ever larger amounts of a nation's resources have not only failed to make the world more fair, the concentration of more resources and power in these politicians' hands has led to results that were often counterproductive at best, and bloodily catastrophic at worst.
This has been proved time and time again. Right now we have states taxed to the max and in places like New York it is killing business because companies and millionaires just move to more favorable environments. The justification of this taxation is fairness, but are things any more fair? We still have 'inequality" and we still have the left preaching tax the rich. Mix this with knee-jerk regulatory policies after bubbles bursting and we have what we have today, an economy being outpaced by a snail.
I think what is important now is recognizing what place money works the best. Do zillions of zillions of dollars work better in the hands of the government or in the hands of the people? Government does serve a purpose but government can be a hindrance when politics is the only motivating factor. As Sowell notes, raising taxes on the wealthy isn't fair but it is beneficial politically. Shouldn't we if there is a perceived inequality help the downtrodden build themselves back up versus taking from someone else and handing it over?
there are tons of countries that have very little government. All are shit holes compared to american and europe. It seems that the only thing that is proven is that big government works.
