1,010 Days Old

My son will be 3 May 17th, but for now he is 1,010 days old. Its been a while sense I have gushed about my baby boy in a post. It's time.

Y:ou won't believe it, because I think he is brilliant and I couldn't believe it myself. My baby can count to 10 and we didn't even teach him. We have only ever workd on 1,2 & 3. However we discovered he can count to ten the other night.

Phil said, "ONE"

Remi said, "Toh"

"THREE"

"FOH"

"FIVE"

"Sik"

"SEVEN"

"eh"

"NINE"

"Teh"

Phil began with the intention of getting Remi to repeat what he said, but Remi continued with the next number. He did this over and over again knowing exactly what number followed the one Phil said, even when Phil starts with Zero. How amazing is that?

I admit I dont have any other children nor do I have much experience with other children, but I think the ability to count to ten not having been formerly taught or pushed to memorize in any way is pretty fucking amazing, right!? Do you know any kids that arn't even three and can count to 10?

He has started talking a lot more (if you couldn't tell from his ability to count outloud) It just sorta clicked and he has been jabbering away intelligibly. It's hard to believe that he was almost mute, just making grunting noises not even 2 months ago, and now he is counting, and telling me about his day, what he wants for dinner.

I had a mattress on the floor in the family room to be moved upstairs, but when I saw how much fun my baby had on it, I left it there and we got a different mattress. I dont know how long ill leave it, but its been there about 6 months now. We play on it in the evenings, its wonderful in the winter when we can't really go outside, the mattress really burns off his energy.

He was jumping on it really high and I was sitting next to it and when he was in the air I would knock his feet out from under him and he would land on his back and fall over, sound mean to type it out but it was absolutly hilarious and just in good fun. Remington would get back up and say "No mama, NOT Nice".

When he would do a swan dive off the Lazy boy and belly flop onto the mattress you would leap off and mid flight say "BONZAI!", when he landed, he stood up and put his hands in the air like a V and say, "TA DUH" Phil and I would clap and applaud wildly and he would bow and say "Tank you".

I frequently ask for hugs and kisses whenever I see Remi with empty arms, after he was done bouncing around on the mattress I said, "Give me a big squeeze!" (our term for hug), he did and I said, "Oh thank you, mommy just loves your hugs", he patted my back, gave me a kiss, "nuff mama, yo welcome"...

He is getting to be such a big guy, before when we snuggle on the couch at night before bed he would argue about going upstairs to sleep. Phil would say, "Your ready to go night night buddy?" and Remi would say "NO" and shake his head. Well now when we snuggle and Phil asks, "You ready to go night night buddy?", he nods his head "yes."...Phil picks him up and I kiss his forhead and Phil says, "Tell mommy night night", Remi looks and me and sleepily waves his hand at me and says, "Bye bye mama".

So amazing how much he has picked up. He is so gosh damn adorable and sweet and sensitive and smart and just perfect in every single way. I really could not imagine a more awesome little boy. I am so greatful for him. Not a single moment I have with him is taken for granted. Love him so much.

Big part of me agrees with you ,been there done that and i wont take a skerrick of your excitment away, then i think wouldn't it be nice for all those littlies who don't get that enviroment that Remi gets to have it too. And the difference between you and some other mothers are how you are playing the game. Blue.

I remember taking an untold number of flying leaps, as a young child, onto innumerable beds, sofas, and beanbag chairs; arms outstretched, like superman. My thinking was: if I do it just right, I'll be able to fly. I'd still be doing it if I didn't fear breaking my neck.

Yes blue, some day I would like to foster kids. Phil is against it though, he thinks my heart will break when they leave and he is even more against adopting kids and he thinks he "knows" that if we were to foster any I wouldn't let them leave me and would insist on adopting or have my heart broken...Hes kinda right but its not important, my heart doesnt matter, like you said its the "littlies" that are missing out on all my good lovin' : )

Super : )

Ignatz, amazing how fearless kids are huh? My mother would cringe if she saw some of the things I let Remi do (supervised a'course). Hes amazingly athletic, and I love watching him flex those muscles and hone that coordination. He is gonna be a Nebraska Cornhusker you know : )

"Do you know any kids that arn't even three and can count to 10?"

our little one could do it before she was 2 ;) ABCs too.

I was gonna be snarky and sarcastic...

but thats pretty impressive.

Taking age out of the equation could she recite it only a month or two into being able to talk?

Cause remember, for some reason, despite me reading to him outloud constantly underlining every word I said with my finger and babbling allowed non stop having one sided conversation all night long my son didn't say an intelligible word until 2 months ago and he is almost 3. He was always babbling but you couldnt understand any of it. Even still he's hard to understand and I swear he was saying "Bitch" all the way to daycare this morning and i've been trying to figure out what he really meant to say and now that it 3:30 in the afternoon im concerned he was really saying Bitch...lol...

Anywhoo women are notoriously smarter than men across the board, so im not surprised by your little one : ) More power to her.

I'd wager Remi could whoop her in the coordination department! lol, you should see his fearless leaps off the furniture and on his feet, he is like a cat sometimes....

not always though, last night Phil kicked him in the face : ( ... Accident of course, we were moving our old bed frame up to the attic, Remi and i were supervising and I asked Remi to come downstairs with me and he followed me half way and then darted back to the attic stairs and got right behind Phils feet as he was taking a step up and his heel popped him right in the eye...He wasn't very swift in avoiding that. I was littlerly hollering "Remi watch out youll get kicked in the face!" right as it happened, I was a second too slow. Poor little feller.

Cheers to brilliant babies!

I think girls develop in this area earlier than boys. I don't remember when she started talking, but she'd been talking for a while before counting and doing ABCs. I also think it helps a lot that she has a big sister who was 3 at the time. She learns a lot from mimicking her sister, which for some reason seems to work better than mimicking adults. I guess she thinks that if her sister can do it she should be able to do it too.

I agree, when Remi made the switch to his current daycare, I saw a world of difference. I think the daycare lady is super involved with the kiddos (love her) and most of the kids are little girls and I think they have influenced Remi's vocabulary a lot more than I ever did! It was only after I was told he had a girlfrien and she was a 4 year old that he started talking more. Teah, yup, pretty little blonde haired blue eyed thing with pink leather cowgirl boots, stole my little boys heart. He hugs her and kisses her on the cheek before we leave every day, "ByeBye Tay". Women, psh...

It's amazing what the little ones can do when they are so little. It leaves you wondering what kind of magical miracle is going on! Counting to 10 by surprise impresses me! I remember being amazed at my little one being able to point out about 20 VCR tapes with no covers or pictures--only writing. I figured he was "reading" and was a genious. He's grown now, and really smart but not the college grad at 14 that I imagined. I think there is some kind of learning process going on at that age that gets lost somehow, and we should figure out how to hold on to it. That said, he is in the top percentage of little brainiacs, I'm sure!

On the other subjects, all I can say is he continues to be so adorable, and I LOVED the part about him waving to you and saying, "Bye bye, Mama." That is so darn cute!

Thank you woman, but none of those things you experienced apply to my brother and his wife. Its their first kid, they acted like this since his birth, like I said-they are pretty uppity. By that I mean superior snobs that I love dearly. This has been read the rest
