Read the article and it's sad that this person didn't evolve to the next step. Please read The Shack reckoner and you'll get a much better idea of my beliefs than I could ever explain here.

For starters realizing that God is not about goodies or vengeance, but rather unconditional love. Just because a bunch of chuckleheads with an agenda screwed up at the council of Nycea, doesn't mean we should discount everything that Jesus taught.

What Jesus taught is clearly explained in most Bibles. We had a Sunday school teacher a couple of years ago (well, maybe 15 years ago, time flies), who was working on a new translation of the Bible, more updated language, etc. He said they were looking at some manuscripts from the second century and they could find no inconsistencies with what you read in a Bible today. Only people like the Jehovah's Witnesses have changed the original writings to fit their purpose. Most Bibles are only different in their interpretation of the original words (one Bible might say "big" and another Bible might say "large"). The big picture has not changed: Jesus is the son of God, He came to earth to clear up a few points (like simplifying the ten commands into love God and love each other), and to die on the cross for our sins, so that we could be forgiven if we accept Him as our Lord and savior. All the majoring on the minors that most atheists do is neither here nor there. Christians just see it as their reluctance to accept the truth, and we know because we were once where they (the atheists) are now. Atheists hate any kind of authority and they do not want anyone telling them that something they are doing is wrong. For them, there can be no God. Otherwise, their actions and lifestyle would be wrong. That is why I want to laugh when someone claims to be a Christian AND a homosexual. I do not believe in candles that work underwater either. Some things are just not possible.

I believe feather is saying that the Bible isn't quite right, that the council of nycea put some stuff in that shouldn't be there. Am I right feather?

There are seversl translations that make a significant difference. The biggest one is found in the ten commandments. Timshel is neither thou shalt or thou must, but rather thou mayest. You see God is giving us free will, a choice. Then my favorite I learned recently, the red sea that Moses parted was actually the sea of reeds. I know what he taught because there are historical documents and when you examine his lessons and sermons you'll see that his intention was for us to love each other.

Whoops we commented at the same time. About the council of nycea, it's not only possible, it's probable. They also conveniently left out a few gospels which didn't fit their requirements and decided to turn Mary Magdelene into a whore. But the more I learn about who these people were the stronger my faith becomes.

In reviewing I realzed it wasn't the council but Pope Gregory the first who decided she was a whore. That was in the sixth century, not surprising at all. Probably not to long after that psychopath wrote malleus malificarum.

Yes, there are those who read the Bible for direction and there are those who read the Bible looking for loopholes. Good luck with that. The later would love to think that somehow God is as evil and twisted as they are, but think about that. God is the ultimate good being, not the godlike being in Star Trek VI that is little more that a super being / spirit. Of course, there is no proving who is right and who is wrong. You have to die to really know the correct answer. A better question might be: why would you want to be right? Why would you want there to be no God, no supreme being that created everything including order, right, and wrong? The answer to that is: you prefer to follow the ways of your master, Satan. Am I right?

So why can't a gay person be a Christian?
