So for the first time in a long time I had a real date for Valentine's Day! It was my new distraction and he had invited me to his home for dinner that he cooked.
I battled the commute traffic after work to get to his place. He lives about 35 miles south of me and it took about 1 1/2 hours to get there. One of the real serious drawbacks of living in the SF area is that traffic is really hideous. I was greeted with a warm hug and kiss and a dozen pink roses.
When I arrived his son was still there so I got an introduction. He's 8 years old and my first thought was that he must look a lot like his mom. He is a typical little boy and he wanted to show off his video game skills, so we sat on the couch with a glass of wine and watched. When his mom arrived to pick him up I saw that I was right about him looking a lot like her.
There is something a little weird about being the potential new woman in a man's life and having a face to face meeting with the former woman in his life. It makes your mind spin a little with comparisons. You wonder if you are prettier, younger, thinner, smarter, nicer .......... the list is endless. Then you wonder how she feels about the whole thing. Does she hate you, feel relieved he's distracted, not have any interest at all ...........
We sat down to dinner after that. He had made a thai soup with fish and veggies. When we had discussed it before I had mentioned liking fish as long as it was very fresh. Bless his heart, he went to the asian market earlier that afternoon and bought a live fish so that the fish would be very very very fresh! It was carp, which I've never had before. Good, but a LOT of bones. More wine with dinner.
We fooled around for a while after that. Not having seen each other in a few days it was kind of mandatory on both sides. We discussed our day, he showed me his patio garden, he gave me a tour of the house. Then he wanted to "show me off" a little so we went to the neighborhood bar he hangs out at. It was a typical sports bar and he introduced me to a few of the patrons and the bartender. I was flattered that he considered me a "new toy" worth showing off and humored him. We had a drink before leaving.
Getting up this morning at my usual morning hour was kind of a chore. I'd been up late and had a few drinks, so I indulged myself by not hitting the gym. Shame on me! I really enjoyed being someone's Valentine. it's nice to have someone to look forward to seeing.
He gets my vote for the pink roses instead of red ones. Glad you had a good time.
