Demoninations threatens civil rights

The Catholic church is in such an uproar because the affordable health care demands that contraception be provided to all women not abortion rights but the right to contraceptive medicine. The Catholic church believes that anything connected to catholicism must come under the domination of the catholic church. Do they demand that female student who attend Notre Dame and other catholic institution swear off never to take contraceptive medicine prior to their being accepted. Do they demand that all employee's of their medical facilities be catholic and take a vow against contraception. Catholic Universities and medical instutions receive federal grants like all other institutions and they are not all catholic that attend so why would they insist on contraceptions being denied to all catholic or not.

Do all catholics only have sex for procreation purpose, do they not believe in sex for pleasure among consenting adults. Can they be excommunicated for having sex other than for procreation.

What is their policy, if you have sex and don't become pregnant you can consider yourself lucky but if you do you just crapped out.

25 percent of all children in America go to bed each night hungry or mal nourished the same amount suffer physical abuse or sexual abuse so why doesn't they consider contraception a benefit. If procreation is such a benefit why do they not allow priest or Nuns to get married. They allow homosexuals and pedophiles to be a part of their hierarchy and when they are caught abusing kids they shield them from the judicial process that other pedophiles and sex abuser are subjected to by transferring them from one diocese to the next. They allow divorcee's to become members of their church isn't that a sign that they have disobeyed God's law because the bible states whom god has put together let no man put asunder. The Bible states that the least you do unto my little ones you do it also to me when it comes to children.

The law doesn't demand that a Priest or Bishop stand in front of a hospital or college dorm demanding that young ladies take contraception pills it only requires that they be made available. Since when did a college campus of hospital become a church regardless of who sponsor it.

how many of those children that are abused and neglected belong to catholic families?

I think that is a really dishonest way of framing an argument.

feather said 3 months ago ...

I think you're misunderstanding what is actually happening here. The federal goverment is telling that Catholic church that they must provide their employees with conttraception coverage and abortion coverage even though this is against their religion. They must also offer abortions at Catholic hospitals. A clear violation of the separation of church and state. Now, I don't agree with the Catholic church's stance on these issues, but they certainly have the right to practice their beliefs, just as I have the right not to go to a Catholic hospital. This means that the federal government can tell Christian Scientists they must provide medical care, Jehovahs Witnesses that theymust provide coverage for blood transfusions. Down the road they may be able to tell Quakers they are eligible for the draft or athiests that they must attend church ever week. Trust me this is very bad.

" They must also offer abortions at Catholic hospitals. A clear violation of the separation of church and state. "

I disagree. A hospital is not a church. If you want to be an insurance company, or a hospital, or any kind of business, then you are a business, not a church.

Think of it this way. My religion is manfarianism, which says that women aren't as good as men. I want to start an airline, but it's not just an airline, it's a manfarianism airline. Can I now discriminate against women in my business? Or do I have to follow the laws that apply to running an airline business?

feather said 3 months ago ...

Wrong. Because not all hospitals offer all services. If you want a heart transplant, you don't go to just any hospital. There are women's hospitals and children's hospitals.

feather said 3 months ago ...

There are three non religious male universities in the US, no men's hospitals that I could find, but quite a few men's clinics. I personally could care less if you want to start an all male airline, as long as there can be an all female airline. I know the bathroom would be a whole lot cleaner.

reckoner said 3 months ago ...

really simply, a business can not break laws by simply claiming that those laws are against it's religion.

feather said 3 months ago ...

Where is the law that says all hospitals must provide all procedures?

Where is the law that says all hospitals must provide all procedures?

reckoner said 3 months ago ...

There is a law that says insurance providers must provide contraception. That's the law.

"The federal goverment is telling that Catholic church that they must provide their employees with conttraception coverage and abortion coverage even though this is against their religion"

How accurate is this statement? I'm pretty sure it's almost entirely false.

feather said 3 months ago ...

Where are these laws of which you speak? Why do you think the Catholic church and other religions are so upset?

reckoner said 3 months ago ...

You're complaining about the law, and then you act as if the law doesn't exist?

How about you give us a specific example of this great wrong you perceive. What exactly is the catholic church being forced to do, and how are they being forced to do it?

feather said 3 months ago ...

Apparentely I misunderstood, this is the new law. Hence the contoversy of asking a religion to do that which is against their religion. Catholic hopitals and other Catholic charities must now provide their employees with coverage for these services. As I said before, I don't agree with the policy of the Catholic church, but I do agree that they should not have to comply with services or proceedures which are against their religion. Churches are exempted, but not Cathilic organizations like Catholic Hospitals. We either have religious freedom or we don't.

Now I thought we were talking abiut the law that says all hospitals must provide all services and procedures.

sean_renaud said 3 months ago ...

If they are private charities they can do as they like. If they receive tax dollars they have to follow the general law of the land. Same as private schools can teach Creationism all day long if they like but public schools, even ones in areas where the majority believe in Creationism don't get that luxury.

May I repeat once again since when did a hospital and a college become a church?. Yes there is separation of church and state but when an institution catholic or not receive money from the federal government it has lost it's ability to violate the law. Isn't this a case of the tail wagging the dog since 98 percent of child bearing age catholic use contraception of some sort. So when the Priest or Bishop get up preaching against contraception, he's definitely not preaching to the choir. There is no abortion in this bill, federal payment for abortions has been illegal for over 35 years. Again no law requires the priest or bishop to stand in from of the female dorm or nurses lounge handing out contraceptive pills, all the law requires is that they be made available to catholics and none catholic who want them.

Hey d6fer I don't know how many of those children were catholics, but I do know that several catholic dioceses went belly up from paying the victim of sexual abuse by pedophile priest rather than turning them over to the judicial process to avoid embarrassment
