My Problem With Religion

Although the bill as written could be used to create a comparative religion class, its sponsor, Senator Dennis Kruse, has made it clear that he hopes to see it foster the teaching of creationism in science classes. The original text of the bill explicitly mentioned creation science; it has since been modified to mention a variety of religions, including Scientology. In a brief interview, Kruse expressed disdain for evolution, calling it a "Johnny-come-lately" theory.

Why does religion want to insert itself into science classes?

Creationism should be taught in science class and this is a comparative religion class so who really cares?

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

Creationism/Inteligent design should absolutely not be taught in science class because its not science. And there in lies the problem this guy openly admits that he's trying to get around the rules.

sadsack said 4 months ago ...

This is more than ridiculous. Creationism\intelligent design is definitely NOT science. Facts in science have been proved based on current knowledge, its results can be reproduced any where in the world.

How does one prove or disprove creationism and intelligent design?

Religious beliefs and private doctrines should not be mixed with science!

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

To be fair you could prove/disprove inteligent design if the inteligent designers would set some parameters with which to work. I don't find ID to be entirely unplausible depending on how weak or inteligent the being is in the first place.

outlander said 4 months ago ...

:) I know...I love watching you guys come unhinged as if creationism and intelligent design being taught anywhere would cause the world to flip upside down. And this mainly because IT IS ALL READY TAUGHT!!! What do you think parochial schools teach and what do you think the vast majority of kids are taught at home?

Science is the systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions(according to wiki.) If reasonable scientists can come up with testable explanations and predictions based on a higher intelligence then it is worth exploring. Science is not about right or wrong it is about exploration for the purpose of discovery.

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

It would cause the world to become unhinged and no it isn't taught. Not any more than halocaust denial is taught. Sure it happens but it's not the norm.

Yes science is about the exploration and multiple times you've been asked to provide some kind of paramaters for your belief and you refuse.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

"If reasonable scientists can come up with testable explanations and predictions based on a higher intelligence then it is worth exploring. "

But they can't. There is no testable explanation based on creationism. This becomes obvious whenever I ask you to explain the fossil record with some creation theory. You always dodge the question.

outlander said 4 months ago ...

I have stated my opinion numerous times. ID is a testable theory that can be backed up by reasonable scientists that just happen to believe in God. When you guys get backed into corner you start by shooting the messenger.

I think you guys are afraid that if anything else beside evolution is taught then the outstanding holes in the evolution theory will be exposed.

"ID is not a testable theory and there are no holes in the evolution theory...there is no way a man with a big gray beard sitting up in the sky could have created everything."

There I saved you the time of writing a response, this what you are going to say right?

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

Nope. I'm going to ask you as I always do to set some fucking paramaters. I can't test something or show evidence against it if you don't have a solid point position. Creationism has a solid point. There was nothing then there was stuff. It's demonstrably false. ID kinda says and does whatever you want for whatever reason you want whenever you want without any solid points to be proven or disproven.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

you still haven't given a theory of ID that explains the fossile record. You are the one that has not backed up your claims. Please show us a theory of ID that fits the fossil record.

sadsack said 4 months ago ...

I am a Physics lecturer and I believe in God. But I do NOT speak of my personal beliefs during my lectures on Physics. Physics is science, belief in God or creationism is not. I have no right to mix the two. Physics and all science rests on a foundation of testable and proven facts. My students can experiment for themselves and verify many of the things I teach them. If this leads them to a sense of wonder and awe at the marvel of the universe and then to faith in a divine power that is different, but I and no science teacher anywhere can presume that ID or creationism is science and teach it to kids at an impressionable age.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

right on sadsack!

sadsack said 4 months ago ...

Thanks reckoner!

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

Negatory. If you believe in creationism youre a liar for not teaching it.

outlander said 4 months ago ...

So lets see creation from and unknown higher intelligence is some wacked out religous belief but creation by some random undirected process isn't?

And I'm sick of this "teaching kids at an impressionable age." Most kids all ready have a grasp of how everything got here and evolution is tiny part. Millions of kids go to parochial schools everyday and are taught evolution took over after a creator brought everything about. We don't manfacture religious fanatics by the millions here. Science is discovery and if it is based on testable and proven facts then human evolution is not science.

We are smart enough to explore the possibilities of a higher intelligence without mixing religion in or indoctrinating anyone, certainly not anymore than what is happening with evolution in our public schools today and that is proof by some of the geniuses on this site that repeatedly claim overwhelming and evidence that is without question to support evolution without a single shred of evidence to back it up.
