Baking With Your Federal Government

Mind you I saw this article on conservative and liberal websites. Federal brownie and oatmeal cookie recipes; twenty six pages long..... I say to myself, "This can not be!" After downloading the actual recipe and entering an alternate universe, it's easy to see why we are in debt. I blame this on no one administration, but the federal government as a whole. What moron needs 26 pages to make dessert? It lasts for three years? Really? What is the half life on these things, might I ask? Who needs an index and a table of contents for a cookie recipe? You may laugh, but there was probably a brownie and oatmeal cookie committee....months of meetings to discuss what fat to use. "Shall it be lard or crisco?" "I will have the reasearch on that a week from Tuesday." "How are we coming on the nut size, type, and distribution per brownie?" "I don't know, I need more time!" Ahhhhrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!

LMAO

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

That's a terrible way to present that information. There probably were no commities on this and yes it does damn near have a half life. It's supposed to.

feather said 4 months ago ...

I was joking when I said committee. It was actually a team of 22 lead by their trusty team leader Donald J. Hamlin.

bluegum said 4 months ago ...

if i can't get em in the oven within half an hour it a lost cause because i'v eaten the mixture un cokked by then . Blue.

grapekoolaid said 4 months ago ...

I keep telling people "beware the Crisco lobby", but no one listens to me.

Them and the beet sugar lobby. Powerful stuff. Keeping the Cane sugar lobby out of Washington for years now.

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

Again this is so dishonest.

feather said 4 months ago ...

Sean, have you seen the actual document? I have! Google the npr article on the recipe if you don' t believe me. Better yet take a look at the actual twenty six page document.

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

Yes I have seen the actual document. MIL-C-44072C isn't a recipe for starters it's an entire manual that includes storage, packaging and storage techniques. It's funny that you mention a half-life because they are specifically designed to be something that can be safely eaten three years after it's been made because it's for the military. It's basically a users manual and every user's manual ever is filled with an absurd amount of details which is all that this is. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the debt or lobbies or comittees. I bet you that the Hostess "recipe" for Twinkees is similar in length.

feather said 4 months ago ...

And on that I rest my case.

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

You rest your case on what? That things aren't simple and you're being terribly dishonest by presenting an entire process that includes handling, packing, storage, processes for handling it as a "recipe". You're restting your case on governments are essentially run like businesses and you agree that the "recipe" for Twinkees or Oreos is probably equally absurdly long because they contain a lot of information that has nothing to do with how to make them?

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

What were the recipes for?

feather said 4 months ago ...

Brownies and Oatmeal cookies. Why not just call up Hostess or Little Debbie and save the trouble of writing that document? You take life way too seriously sean.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

what was the intended use? For example, I used to be in the military. The militaries meals are planned to ensure they provide complete nutrition and a healthy diet. If the recipe is for the military then that committee likely included nutritionists to ensure that these recipes fit into that overall system for nutrition.

feather said 4 months ago ...

Yes, it was for the military.

There's almost a whole page on the three different nuts which may be used and how they have to be a certain size, fitting through a certain sized whole. Then another page to state that the ingredients must be free of forgein materials, such as rodent droppings. Seriously, though, are bluegum, grapekoolaid, and I the only ones that find this funny?

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

The document is linked. It's not so much a recipe as it is a technical document. It covers everything from the ingredients to what the storage material is made of. Like I said I imagine it's rather common practice for any food. And how do you know they didn't just call up Hostess or Little Debbie and copy an existing document? All we know is said document exists not how it came into being.

And it was funny, until you started linking stuff like this to debt and deficiet. If you meant that as a joke I apologize but people take that stuff seriously and if we're ever going to start getting any of this debt/deficiet shit in hand we have to move the conversation beyond "The government is evil and robs you of your hard earned wealth don'tyoudaretouchanythingIlike" and into the government is a tool and we need to figure out how to work it best. Again this is a technical document, sure it's absurdly long but they all are.
