If evolution is wrong, what is right?

Whenever I ask for an alternative theory that fits the evidence I get crickets. No critic of evolution has an alternative that fits the evidence better than evolution. This shows the fundamental flaw in Intelligent Design. There is NO theory of ID that fits the evidence better than evolution.

I'd love to hear an alternate theory that fits the evidence, please post it if you have one.

What does it matter? All the talk of evolution is simply atheist's way of saying
they do not believe in God. After all, there has to be a God if all of this was
created by a higher power. I have my own theories that I entertain myself
with because sciencists really have no better theories. I think God created
the earth and then populated it with dinosaurs for millions of years to
prepare it for Man. There may have been some monkey men around in
those days. Human-like creatures that we call cavemen. They were all
wiped out along with the dinosaurs. And who knows what kind of creatures
were around before Noah's time and the great flood. Again, what difference
does it make? What difference does the past make or where we all came
from? If we learned from the past, we would not elect idiots like Obama.
God operates to a high degree on faith. As best I can tell, this whole life
is simply a test. We are being tested as to whether we believe in God or
not. The Bible tells us what God wants us to know. That He created Man
(Adam and Eve) and that Man (Adam and Eve) sinned from the get go.
And Man has been sinning ever since. However, the fact that you do not
believe there is a God (so you cannot put your trust in Him) is the one
sin He cannot forgive. To put it in simple terms: how can Santa come to
see you if there is no Santa. God does not give us concrete proof of His
existence other than the fact that any moron should be able to look
around and tell without a shadow of a doubt that all this did not just
happen by accident. The wonderful thing is that God gives us the free
will to think about all these things ad nauseam. If there was absolute
evidence of His creation, then we would need no faith. Of course, there
are those who believe in Him similar to the way people believe in
Santa Claus -- because of the gifts He may shower on them. He is
looking for those who believe in Him like they believe in their earthly
fathers, simply because He is their father ... in heaven. I really do not
care about the deatils of how God created earth and Mankind. I am
just convinced that he did even if he used an evolutionary process
to do it. Even if the monkey men evolved into Adam and Eve who
were finally created in the image God was looking for. Evolution and
creation both take faith. Otherwise, we would have no reason to keep
debating the issue. If either could be proved beyond a shadow of a
doubt, this whole test would not be necessary. I would prefer to
believe that there is something at the end of this test and even after
this life. I would prefer to believe that I will spend eternity in heaven
with God and not simply in the ground waiting to be found someday
and my bones thrown in that larger pile of bones that cannot be used
to prove your theory of evolution.

grapekoolaid said 4 months ago ...

So God creates man and woman with original sin. Then God impregnates a woman with himself as her child, so that he can be born. Once alive, he kills himself as a sacrifice to himself, to save us from the sin he originally condemned us to.

Sound about right?

This post isn't about religion. It's about theories and how well they fit the evidence. I looking for an alternative theory to evolution that fits the evidence better.

wombat said 4 months ago ...

Who ever said that evolution wasn't of God's design? There is no fundamental flaw in either case. We still just don't know, and that's that. But I do believe in evolution of sorts, by intelligent design. It's all sort of like asking the question of "why did the chicken cross the road."

There was a road, and the chicken crossed it. Who cares why.

It just did.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

"Who cares why"

Understanding the world we live in is really important. Natural selection is one of the most elegant and powerful ideas i've ever come across. It explains so many things, and it's implications are significant.

Here's an example. Are humans animals like all other animals? We simply evolved better brains? If so, doesn't that have huge implications?

"There is no fundamental flaw in either case."

Well, there is only one case here, that's the theory of evolution. God isn't a case, because there is no real definition of god. Same with ID, there is no theory of ID. There is no case there. I guess that isn't entirely true, you can look at something like http://www.answersingenesis.org/ and they make a case. It doesn't fit the evidence, but it's a case. They believe that the earth is only thousands of years old, and that Noah's ark was a true story. That every animal we see today is a descendant of the animals on Noah's ark.

Now that's a case, something we can compare to the evidence, and when we do it is obvios that it is wrong.

This is why outlander won't put forth a case of his own. There isn't one that fits the evidence better than evolution.

Face it. No one really cares in the long run. This is the stuff that late night rap
sessions are made of, like you used to have in college, when you were drunk
and you thought you had the answers to everything. And then you woke up
the next morning with a hangover and none of what was discussed amounted
to a hill of beans because you were late for your final exam in one of those
elective courses (like Existentialism). Atheists just like to talk about evolution
because they do not understand anything about God (just look at grape's
dumbass comment) and they want God dead. Well, cheer up. As grape said,
God killed Himself so you could have everlasting life. Do not ask me why He
did it. I can find very little evidence that any of us are worth it. Of course, I
also wonder how some people at the super market can pick up those little
brats running around with them and give them a big hug when I would
prefer that they give them a good spanking. Love is grand, I suppose, and
God is all about love. He loves us even if we nail Him to a cross and spit on
Him and watch him die. Yes, Man is capable of some really, really awful
stuff. We were all created by God, but we were created with free will. Free
will to do good or to do bad. That is what I mean by this life being a test. God
is finding out who is naughty and who is nice, who is going to listen to Him
and love Him no matter what, and who is going to listen to the evil one and
his band of fallen angels. This whole life is a spiritual battle for your soul and
mine. You have to feel that if you feel anything at all. And you could be the
downfall of your children and your children's children, and their children for
generations down the line. You can pass on your disbelief just as a drunk can
pass on his drunken habits. You are not just fighting for your eternal soul, you
are fighting for many that follow you, like dominos you can all stand or you
may all fall to the beat of your master's voice. If my descendants lose their
place in heaven, it will not be my fault because, in my opinion, Jesus is the
way and the truth and the life. That is exactly how I understand the cesspool
we live in, which was fashioned after the lord of this world, your master. I
call him your master because you are either following God or you are
working for the enemy. It is just that simple. Like it or not.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

Evolution is a major part of medical research. Bacteria and viruses evolve.

grapekoolaid said 4 months ago ...

"You can pass on your disbelief just as a drunk can pass on his drunken habits."

So yeah... About that... The same applies to belief, dunnit? Ideas like nationalism, patriotism, religion and faith... All these are man made constructs passed down through generations. For example, if you were born in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, you'd be all gung ho about stoning a woman for showing her ankle & be interested in spreading dar al islam, know what I mean?

So how much of it is nature and how much of it nurture?

alienated said 4 months ago ...

You guys are into a my-party-right-or-wrong deal. That is the only explanation
that makes any sense when it comes to Obama. Most Republicans are into a
my-country-right-or-wrong deal. I like our way better even if it does include a
whole party of ingrates that hate America, patriotism, morality, and God. If I
had been born in an armpit nation like Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, I would probably
be trying my best to get here. Sometimes legal immigrants make better citizens
than people who were born here. Probably because people born here are getting
a Socialist indoctrination in government schools instead of an education while legal
immigrants have to learn some histroy about this nation.

grapekoolaid said 4 months ago ...

"Most Republicans are into a my-country-right-or-wrong deal."

Ha! That's a joke. The Republicans are the party of "No", remember? Whatever Obama's for, you're against it. That's why the congress does nothing and have such a low approval rating. Because they don't care what it is. If Obama is for it, they're against it. This is your idea of putting the country first?

outlander said 4 months ago ...

Just because there isn't and alternative theory to evolution doesn't make evolution any stronger or even weaker for that matter. As Alien and Wombat pointed out what difference does it make? If you believe in an accident or specific action in the overall swing of things who really cares?

The big problem here is the word evolution has a lot of different meanings and needs to be more specific. Human evolution, animal evolution, celluar evolution, etc.. Some parts of evolution make sense but as a whole it doesn't fully complete the puzzle.

grapekoolaid said 4 months ago ...

Just because a person doesn't believe in God does not negate all meaning of life. I don't need to believe in a heaven or hell looming over me to coerce me into being good. I don't have to have someone looking over me 24/7 to behave. I can choose to be a good person without some eternal reward or fear of punishment to lead a moral life. Just for the sake of being good. Just for the sake of advancing the cause of the human race.

I can choose to inject meaning into my own life. I don't need some cosmic policeman to browbeat me into being a good person.

In fact, I can say that it is my duty as a human being to further the cause of humanity. I feel that it is my duty as a person inhabiting this planet to try to shed some light on the darkness of the world. If somebody's walking around with a sign around their neck that reads, "please, for the love of all that is good in this world, let me have it", I am compelled to let that person have it.

You're right. Evolution does not paint a complete picture. It does however, paint the best picture given the tools and the knowledge that we have. Until a better theory comes along, I'm afraid we're stuck with evolution whether you like it or not.

Ptolemaic system of geocentrism existed as science only until the Copernican system of heliocentrism came about in 1543. We had to invent some pretty wacky, convoluted planetary orbiting system to explain the retrograde of some planets before heliocentrism came along.

Now we know that the sun is itself in orbit of the galactic central point and that the Sun is not in the center of the universe at all.

outlander said 4 months ago ...

grape-Your first paragraph I find intriging because I think fear of losing heaven or being punished in hell is a very small part of why people are beleivers. I have a hard time with hell because it's mention in the Bible is more interpretation. But what is interesting is fear of punishment cannot factor in on a lot of people who believe in God in my opinion. I came to this the other day when going over abortion statistics that said 73% of people who got an abortion has some form of belief in God. That is amazing to me because if you believe in God, then you must believe God would not approve of terminating pre-human and sometimes human life. The only way I reconcile that is they believe they are going to be forgiven.

I think with a lot of people a belief in God is just being a part of something that is far beyond ourselves and the fact that a belief in God means you are never technically alone. I have been in situations, in the dark and have been really scared and upon whispering to God in a prayer to give me strength felt better, felt a comfort come over me and was able to better handle the situation I was in and rationalize why my fear was illogical. Does this mean God exists? No. Did I technically need a God to get through that situation, not at all. But there is a chance that I could be right and he does exist just as much as a chance we are all part of a random cosmic piece of flatus that popped everything into place then evolution took it from there to here.

You also say evolution does not paint a complete picture. Try getting that put at the head of a chapter on evolution in a science book and see what happens.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

"That is amazing to me because if you believe in God, then you must believe God would not approve of terminating pre-human and sometimes human life. "

Why? If something is only 2 cells, or 4 cells, then why would God care? It isn't aware, doesn't feel pain or emotions, etc.

"I think with a lot of people a belief in God is just being a part of something that is far beyond ourselves and the fact that a belief in God means you are never technically alone."

I agree, but this is very different than being a christian, which has a book which is supposed to be the inerrant word of God. That's where they lose me.

"Try getting that put at the head of a chapter on evolution in a science book and see what happens."

I really don't understand this. Evolution never claims to be about anything more than natural selection causing life forms to evolve over time. Antievolution people seem to think evolution is more than it is, and create a strawman that doesn't exist.
