Exotic Food...

i was watching top chefs masters and the theme for the episode was about exotic meat or something.

they had kangaroo meat, black chicken, sea cucumber and what made me laugh out loud is that they find goat, squid and duck as exotic meat.

i guess it really depends on the culture and the country on what you find exotic.

in my country we find goat, duck and all seafood as normal and not that exotic. i guess its because we have those types of meat in our country available easily for us.

goat meat is pretty normal here and we cook it for special occasions. it is made like a stew and we dont cook it often because the smell of a dead goat is really bad. duck is pretty normal too but more gamey compare to chicken. the best duck dish i tasted was in Malaysia though. they braised it and the sauce and duck meat was teh topping for noodles. it was sooooo good.

and squid...

seriously....

exotic?

this is one of the most normal seafood here in my country. i tasted many types of dishes with a squid... okay im craving for one, i think ill cook calamares this week.. LOL

i remembered my aunt in america told me that the oyster cost like 1 dollar a piece....

i was like wtf??? you can buy that much money for one order of oysters (means one small basket of it!) in our hometown!

There are some exotic food in here that i havent tried yet and curious to do so. like snakes, lizards and all. i tasted bird's nest soup and i like it. i dont know if that's exotic though but it is one of the most hard to find dish here.

if you really want an exotic food that we find it normal in here, then you should try balut http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_(egg)

yeah i love this food and can eat 5 of it in one sitting... LOL...

so how about you?

what type of food you find exotic?

Adobong pusit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! naglalaway hahaha

I gave up cooking Filipino food not because I prefer dishes in the countries I have been to and resided it's because I only know how to cook for a big family, and I will end up eating all of them! LOL

Hmmm, can't think at the top of my head at the moment what food find exotic...maybe I'll get back when I am not too distracted.

I love seafood, I dont consider it exotic cause I hunt it down and sniff it out and eat it all up whenever I can, cause its available, but just not around every corner. Yes, its expensive here (prolly the us in general but especially the midwest.). Hmm...what food do I think is exotic, im having trouble establishing a boundary between exotic and weird.

Cause I know a place that sells frog legs, that to me is weird but prolly also exotic : P I bet if I lived in Lousiana they'd be totally normal. Ooo Shark meat would be very exotic to me! Same with alligator, I would definitly think eating a kangaroo would be exotic.

I have eaten fresh beaver (dont be a perv) I went to a wild game feed once and they served up all kinds of crazy critters one wouldnt normally be accustomed to. Beaver, Rabbit, Snake, Frog Legs, Deer, Pheasant, Quail, Crow, Squirrel, Mountain Oysters (HAHA).

Hard for me, im super receptive to trying new things....definitly the staples in my area is beef, pork, lamb, anything else more expensive and harder to find, so one might say yes exotic.

My all time favorite seafood? Alaskan King Crab Legs...to die for. Im hoping hubby will take me to my favorite restaurant that serves those up on Valentines Day, its an hours drive away but totally worth it!

I've eaten some strange things-strange to others, anyway. You are right, it depends on the culture--even in different regions in one country. I've served up a mess of squirrel before (although I wouldn't eat it after seeing tiny, stiff hairs still stuck to it in the skillet) I've had frog, deer and "chittlens." (pig guts fried)

I don't like alot of seafood, so I wouldn't touch squid or anything slimy!

squid is really good if cooked right wombie! never tasted deer or squirrel before and i have no intention to do so!
