envy and being grateful

they said that envy is one trait that we must all avoid.

it is evil and it can be a way to other evil traits and blah blah blah like that.

but seriously...

everyone experience it. it's the first thought that comes in your mind when you see someone or something that you want for yourself.

i guess this is something that i realize today.

while browsing in facebook i envied someone's life.

perhaps i feel like it was better than mine. and then i step back and think of this broadly.

is her life better than mine?

can i give up everything in my life in exchange for their life?

of course not.

eventhough i dont get what i want and im pretty much contented in what i have now.

i may not be the prettiest or richest or have the best career, but i love my life. i love my own dreams and i love the people that loves me back.

i dont want to give up all of that for someone else's life.

so yeah maybe i got envious at first but i am grateful for my life and just be happy for their life.

after all, im pretty happy and contented in what i am and what i can be...

I agree with Uni, and I also think that there's a difference between feeling the envy/acknowledging it and feeling the envy/giving in to it. When we acknowledge it we are led to think on our own life and realize, just as you did, that it's not so bad, that it's a perfect fit for you, and that the thing we're envious of isn't all it's cracked up to be, AND we are able to avoid giving in to it.

Nice take on the concept of envy. I find myself feeling the same way at times. Well, maybe I can even say "often." But you are right about giving up the good parts of your life in exchange for what you see as the great parts of theirs. Who knows what really sad or bad things they actually have that we don't see?

Doesn't it feel fabulous when you begin to feel better after an illness? It's an almost giddy feeling of appreciation when energy returns! I caught a virus over the holiday and it stopped my life for a few days. Tonight I am beginning to feel better and
