Teen Mom Kills Home Invader, with a shotgun...

This is why people should have guns

Good girl, thats all I gotta say...Good girl! For all we know this story could have ended with those men raping and killing her and stealing the baby or much worse. People are going to criticize her for pulling that trigger, say she was too quick, that boy didnt deserve to die he was unarmed, she is a murder. Thats all non sense to me. That boy made his decision and new the risk. That girl did the right thing.

except people that have guns are more likely to have an accidental shooting than to shoot an intruder.

sean_renaud said 4 months ago ...

She made the right call. Doesn't change that someone is dead over a television set most likely.

That said as reck points out you're more likely to have an accidental shooting than shoot an intruder. Crimes of passion become a lot easier as well.

starchini said 4 months ago ...

blah blah, just cause we hear about those over the news more often, frankly I was shocked that this even made the news, i think if she were not a teen mom (popular now days) this wouldnt have made the news. generally only wrongly killed people make the news, not people rightly killed. Your guys' opinion that people are more likely to have accidents I think is just because of the media and how they report on those incidents more often not because they happen more often. This teenager (nieve and impulsive) called 911 first, got her gun and asked if she could shoot them... People with guns are not more likely to have an accidental shooting, they are more likely to not ever need the gun they own than shoot an intruder, but the accident thing, I think thats bullshit. There are more guns in my town than there are people by a loooong shot, i'd wager 4 out of 5 houses in my town have more than one gun, and people around here dont just have one, they have more like 5. I've only ever heard of one Accidental shooting in my town (over twenty years) that was a hs kid who had broken his leg in a football accident and decided he would hobble out into the coutnry and go blue rock shooting, alone. He ended up shooting himself in the thigh of the broken leg (HAHA, I can laugh now cause he is fine.) he hobbled himself to the hospital and he was fine, lots of blood loss and some nerve damage. I can't think of anyone being killed by someone defending themselves, you might think that proves your point, but I mean to say that we just dont have much crime around here, if someone breaks in somewhere the person calls his mother, doesnt shoot him...So my town is an example of extremely low practically non existent incidences of accidents....I just know there are a ton of people that protect and prolly kill their burglars every year and it just isnt newsworthy unless you look for it. I'd like to see some data about it, but I just find it extremely hard to believe and im sorry but rediculous to think there are more accidental shootings than rightful shootings...

Sean, it was over prescription pills supposedly, but we dont know...thats what I mean by people making him seem like a victim, he was never allowed the chance so it might have just been over some oxycontin or it could have been rape murder, cause if they were after drugs they prolly were already on drugs....Alls I can think of though is that she must have been crazy terrified to shoot so fast...If it were me, I dont think id be able to shoot unless I felt certain they were going to try to kill me...So I trust that how she felt...

"Your guys' opinion that people are more likely to have accidents I think is just because of the media and how they report on those incidents more often not because they happen more often. "

This sounds like a giant bias on your part. I'll dig up the statistics later if sean doesn't beat me to it.

reckoner said 4 months ago ...

This isn't the same year, but I think it proves the point.

Of the 13,636 Americans who were murdered in 2009, only 215 were killed by firearms (165 by handguns) in homicides by private citizens that law enforcement determined were justifiable.

23,237 accidental non-fatal gunshot injuries in the United States during 2000.

This is apples to oranges, but 215 is a tiny tiny number. Over ten thousand people used a gun to kill themselves.

starchini said 4 months ago ...

I admit im biased, only because statistics like this portray guns negatively when its the people that are morons. More specifically by accident I meant in the realm of burglary...Say that teen mom just finished watching a scary movie and was frightened when the door rang and she pulled the trigger accidentally killing granny. Accidentally killing "intruders", versus purposeully doing it. I wonder how many of those people of nearly 25,000 non fatal accidents took a gun safety course??? I'd wager 1/3 of em...

You know how people complain about communism because it's too idealistic? It assumes people will be responsible and do the right thing, that's why it will never work?

You're argument is that guns aren't a problem if only people would be responsible and do the right thing. hehe

starchini said 4 months ago ...

You know reck, when I first was told about communism I thought..."huh...people are oppossed to this?"

uniquely-learning said 4 months ago ...

Too fast? As I recall the story she got the gun out and ready when she heard him working on kicking in the door. She called 911. She waited until he was in the door. How is that too fast? Short of yelling out a warning that he would probably have ignored she did good. There were two of them according to the story I read. The other one ran when the first one was shot. To me that means that they weren't so high that they didn't have the good sense to run.

Maybe I'm red neckish too, but I've always embraced our right to defend our homes. I doubt it would have made the news if she hadn't used the gun and they had raped/killed/etc.

Gun ownership is like so many other Liberal causes. Cigarettes may cause
cancer so everyone must stop smoking, blah blah blah. Car exhaust may
be causeing "global warming/climate change/(catch phase du jour)" so
all cars must have a boatload of crap added to them, which reduces gas
mileage, yadda yadda yadda. A kid fell out of a baby crib ... blah blah blah.
A moron in New York or California does not know how to secure a gun
and blew his toe off ... blah blah blah. Starchini is right and so was that
mom protecting herself and her cub. If more stories ended this way,
maybe guys like that would think twice before acting out their evil plans.
God Liberals are stupid. That mom and her child could be dead instead
because of Liberal stupidity.

Uni, maybe I misread or we read different stories, it seemed to me that the door was locked and they knocked and she spoke with them for a while through the door, she had the gun the whole time, and called 911 and asked the operator if she could shoot them (like outside in her yard) and the operator said "No, they have to be in the house.", then the guys busted down the door and she shot'em. To be clear I find absolutly nothing wrong with what she did, she was well within her rights and did great...I just thought she was a little quick (from what I read). You know how these stories can get skewed and what not, for all I know she barely shot in time.

uniquely-learning said 4 months ago ...

the story I read did mention that she had talked to them earlier that day. It didn't mention any conversation. But then, like you said, a lot of media gets twisted to reflect the writer's opinions.
