This morning listening to Michael Reagan the son of the late President Ronald reagan telling his audience how great his father was. Not knowing any better you would have thought that the earth was dark and void until Ronald Reagan arrived, according to his son he could walk on water and calm the ragin seas and was the most loyal and faithful man that American had elected in centuries. Newt Gingrich was on the other end of the line and let him tell it he was the wind beneath Reagan's wing and that the President would not have had any success if he had not been part of the revolution. Upon my research I found these morsels of information.
1.Ronald Reagan talked alot about family values but he was married and divorced and had children by both wives. So he was a typical man who had feet of clay with imperfections he might have had family values but did he really value the family or maybe he was a closet Mormon.
He talked about faith in God but was not an active member of a church, he was what we call a C.M.E. Christian one who attend church on Christmas, Mothers day and Easter nor is there any record of him giving large donations to religious causes.
He talked about how he loved children and how children were our future but he is the only president to call a dallop of catsup on a school lunch plate a vegetable.
He is described as being the first real conservative president, he raised taxes 11 times and increased the national debt ceiling 18 times. He was the first President to quadrupled the national debt and we were not involved in a war.
I am not saying that he wasn't a good man but many of the accolades imputed to him are myth. he was not America's Santa claus by any stretch of credulity, so let's let the dead past bury it's dead and move forward rather than wallowing in the past.
If Ronald Reagans 8 years in office were so splendid, Why did George W. Bush have to break his no new tax pledge in his first two years in office to keep the government functioning.
