Ronald Reagan Mythical legacy

This morning listening to Michael Reagan the son of the late President Ronald reagan telling his audience how great his father was. Not knowing any better you would have thought that the earth was dark and void until Ronald Reagan arrived, according to his son he could walk on water and calm the ragin seas and was the most loyal and faithful man that American had elected in centuries. Newt Gingrich was on the other end of the line and let him tell it he was the wind beneath Reagan's wing and that the President would not have had any success if he had not been part of the revolution. Upon my research I found these morsels of information.

1.Ronald Reagan talked alot about family values but he was married and divorced and had children by both wives. So he was a typical man who had feet of clay with imperfections he might have had family values but did he really value the family or maybe he was a closet Mormon.

  1. He talked about faith in God but was not an active member of a church, he was what we call a C.M.E. Christian one who attend church on Christmas, Mothers day and Easter nor is there any record of him giving large donations to religious causes.

  2. He talked about how he loved children and how children were our future but he is the only president to call a dallop of catsup on a school lunch plate a vegetable.

  3. He is described as being the first real conservative president, he raised taxes 11 times and increased the national debt ceiling 18 times. He was the first President to quadrupled the national debt and we were not involved in a war.

  4. I am not saying that he wasn't a good man but many of the accolades imputed to him are myth. he was not America's Santa claus by any stretch of credulity, so let's let the dead past bury it's dead and move forward rather than wallowing in the past.

  5. If Ronald Reagans 8 years in office were so splendid, Why did George W. Bush have to break his no new tax pledge in his first two years in office to keep the government functioning.

No president has been perfect. If you were around during the dark days of Jimmy
Carter, you know what a difference Reagan made. Liberals / Democrats / Socialists
hate Reagan because he so aptly demonstrated what a real Republican president
could do in a short time. The interest rate on my first home, under Carter, was
16 percent. I refinanced at some point during the Reagan years to 8.5 percent. My
current rate is almost half of that. Even with all you have said about Reagan,
whether true or not, he was still 100 times the president Obama is or ever will
be. If you had been around during the Reagan years, and could compare, you
would most likely agree, if you are honest.

So in short ALIENated is one of those dirty people who couldn't afford a home but the goverment told banks to give him a loan.

d6fer said 5 months ago ...

show me where the catsup thing was his idea.

Over all taxes went down under Reagan.....he had to work with a Democrat Congress....I think he did pretty well considering.

GDP went way up under Reagan and the debt wasn't anywhere near where it is today.

GHWB didn't have to raise taxes...he just did.

sean_renaud said 5 months ago ...

Taxes did not go down under Reagan. That's a myth.

GHWB did need to raise taxes and frankly he clearly didn't raise them enough.

mgibbosh said 5 months ago ...

Oveall taxes did not go down under Reagan he lowered them and then in less than two years he raised them higher than they were because he had over spent building a 600 ship navy, Why do you blame Reagan short coming on a democratic congress He had a Republican Senate. I notice you fail to blame Obama"s short coming on a do nothing Republican Congress who has no solution to any thing but just say no. GDP is a measure of what the government took in plus what it spent. but to measure the deficit you have to take what the government spent as a percentage of the GDP and in all cases deficit compared to the entire GDP was up in fact from the time he entered office to the time he left he had quadrupled the national debt. So George Bush didn't have to raise taxes after promising not to raise taxes is what you are saying, are you calling him a pathological liar or just a RINO in disquise. Your statement stretches credulity.

Hey Alienated you made my point he was not Jesus Junior as many of you Republicans try to make him out to be. You cannot compare him to Obama he did not inherit two wars, a failed banking and financial system, a housing foreclosure problem, 8 percent unemployment and a failing automobile manufacturing that had to be kept afloat or 3 million more people would be added to the unemployment line. Reagan did not have to convince the congress and the senate to pass a 864 billion dollar stimulus program just to keep the economy from dipping into a depression all these problems were handed to Obama by a supposedly compassionate conservative Republicans Administration.

alienated said 5 months ago ...

Ha ha ha. Only the House is Republican and that just happened this year. Democrats have
run the House AND Senate since 2007. Reagan inherited about as big a mess as Obama
inherited from Jimmy Carter. Bush did not ask for anyone to come here and start trouble
(remember those two big towers that used to be in New York). He was just willing to go
clean out the rats nest that the terrorists came from. I can understand that he would
never have done that to your liking. Unlike Obama, he got permission from congress.
You guy just does whatever he thinks is right without conferring with anyone. Look, I
know that you know Obama is a loser even if you will not openly admit it. You guys
just keep embarrassing yourself like that knight in Monty Python that has lost all his
limbs and keeps trying to fight. We have all observed Obama for over three years
now and it just keeps getting worse. He is simply not smart enought to be president
and has a stupid philosophy that has been proven time and time again not to work.
He is simply proving once again that the socialistic / communistic principles that
Democrats have turned to DO NOT WORK. Reagan proved resoundingly that
capitalism, freedom, and justice works. I honestly do not remember what the taxes
were like during Reagan's time in office because they were overshadowed by all
the money I was making simply by having a good paying and consistent job. And
GHWB raised taxes because the Democrat congress forced him into it after he
had vowed "read my lips, no new taxes". They simply wanted him to look bad.
That is what Democrats / Liberals / Socialists call a bi-partisan effort. But you
know that, if you are honest.

grapekoolaid said 5 months ago ...

d6 and I've already talked about Reagan on his 100th birthday. He single handedly ended communism, remember? [/sarcasm]

He also cut & ran from Lebanon (after 200 marines died), his SDI was a tremendous failure, and his administration was the most corrupt ever with 138 convictions.

Yup. Makes perfect sense why the Right loves him so much. He embodies all the things the Right holds dear.

alienated said 5 months ago ...

Where did you hear all that ... Saturday Night Live? Jon Stewart Show? Ha ha ha
This is all getting too funny. The lights are on and the cockroaches are skittering
around to hide under any available rock. Ha ha ha. Obama could not hold Reagans
toilet paper.

grapekoolaid said 5 months ago ...

Don't shoot the messenger. Enlighten me. Tell me where I'm wrong. Correct me, if you think I'm misinformed. Don't just call me names.

Did he not make deals with terrorists during the Iran Contra ordeal? Did he not cut and run in Lebanon? Did he not back Saddam Hussein? Did he not triple the national debt? Did he not raise taxes 11 times? Were there not 138 convictions from his administration? Where am I mistaken?

Why is the Right so enamored with Reagan?!! Help me understand!!! I just don't get it.

sean_renaud said 5 months ago ...

He wasn't black. That ultimately is what it comes down to for ALIENated. I mean he didn't appear black. Obama isn't black either he's mostly white.

mgibbosh said 5 months ago ...

Grapekoolaid there is a river in Egypt named afte Alienated called denial. Where has this guy been all his life, doesn't he read the newspaper, look at the evening news or no how to google for facts or facts check dot org. I am amazed at the ignorance expressed by some of these Republican. The majority leader of the House Republicans didn't know that Reagan raised taxes 11 times and then had the audacity to say that he didn't violate Republican principles when that has been their motto no new taxes. I bet Alienated didn't know that Reagan was a Democrat and Union leader until the Republicans adopted him to run for govenor of California.

d6fer said 5 months ago ...

Well of course you expect us conservatives to roll over and accept your manipulated reality, but in fact Reagan left with a net decrease in taxes over his 8 year term to the tune of net -4.64 %

sean_renaud said 5 months ago ...

Nope, we just expect you to accept reality. Reagan left with a net decrease in taxes in fantasy land. In reality he raised taxes if you weren't rich.

d6fer said 5 months ago ...

Look it up seany boy.....negative 4.6

mgibbosh said 5 months ago ...

6 fer what are you talking about, what kind of math are you using?. Reagan never balanced a budget during his time in office. he raised taxes 11 times and increase the debt ceiling 18 times what are you refering to negative 4.6 unless that was his rating when he left office.
