Allergic to Amoxycillin

Wednesday I went to pick Remington up from daycare and saw that he was covered in a red spotty rash from head to toe. I freaked the frick out and was a moment away from rushing him to the emergency room when I remembered I had the hospitals Ask a Nurse 24/7 hotline number. I called them and explained that he had had a bad case of Strep throat and has been on Amoxycillin for 7 days. They instructed me to immediatly stop the antibiotic and give him some children's benadryl. Take him to the Doc in the AM and if his lips turn blue take him to the ER. Super, im sick and tired of being warned about the possibility of my baby choking out.

I wont even go into the act of God it took for me to find some Children's Benadryl and not some alternative form of it. Sometimes I really hate my town bc of little things like that. Instant Satisfaction isn't always available.

This mornign was his appointment and the Nurses suspicion was confirmed, Remington is deathly allergic to Amoxycillin. They said they couldn't be sure, but usually that means your also allergic to Penicillin.

They instructed me to continue drugging him with Benadryl until the rash was completly gone and gave him a prescription for Cortisone. A double dose today and a teaspoon for the next 7 days.

Poor little feller. : /

I apppreciate that this might have scared you, but don't worry about it. I've been allergic to penicillin since I was a child...and yes that means that I can't take amoxycillin.

See sweetsoul, im not allergic to anything, never have been, no one in my entire family is, most of us have guts of steal and the idea that putting something "safe" in your body could kill you completly baffles me, its a totally new idea cause of the zero experience I have with allergies....my husband though apparently pissed in my gene pool, ive learned his family is pretty much allergic to everything... : / ...

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said he has a peculiar way of getting sick ... and sounds like a peculiar way of getting well. I'm glad there's other options out there though, and that now at least you know.

Thank you woman, but none of those things you experienced apply to my brother and his wife. Its their first kid, they acted like this since his birth, like I said-they are pretty uppity. By that I mean superior snobs that I love dearly. This has been read the rest

Well I supose the slang you highlighted is for your entire country. I have been trying to think of slang for my state. Because you seem to be quite knowledgeable about America, I assume you know all of America's slang and I might sound stupid if I put read the rest
