My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant

"One day when I was 16, I rode my bike to the nearby D.M.V. office to get my driver’s permit. Some of my friends already had their licenses, so I figured it was time. But when I handed the clerk my green card as proof of U.S. residency, she flipped it around, examining it. “This is fake,” she whispered. “Don’t come back here again.” "

I obviously did not make it very far through all that, but, as usual, you seem to be all for the
wrong thing. Illegal is illegal. What other laws do you think we should ignore? People like Obama
could give a care about people who come here from somewhere else -- illegally. He and most
Democrats just want their votes. They just want to use people, as usual. But here is the pay
back. Like that guy in the story, a lot of people who come here from other places have ten times
the integrity and moral values that the garden variety Liberal / Democrat / Socialist has. So they
will most likely be voting for Conservatives eventually. Plus, people eventually figure out when
they are being used, or, at least, I would like to think so. The very fact that people like Obama,
Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi were ever elected makes me wonder.

I think we all agree that because something is illegal it doesn't mean it is wrong or that it should be illegal. At one point it was illegal to have a glass of wine at dinner in America, but that surely isn't wrong is it?

I got as far as I needed to. The man graduated college. Sending college graduate home to create wealth in their countries is absurd on it's face and it's the reason why minorities, none of them vote for Republicans. They aren't going to change. They vote the same way it seems every time. It's important note that if it's about illegal immigration and amnesty they'd be better off with Republicans as Reagan granted amnesty, Bush tried. Twice and McCain was the man who WROTE the amnesty bill.

At some point it's not about breaking the law. The kid didn't break a law, at worst he was a "victim" in all of this. He's also not a criminal and not on welfare. The only thing he's doing is taking a job from a less qualified American. Which ultimately falls well into what would normally fall under your "oh well" category. I mean the idea that an American should get a job because their American is absurd. Or did all the conservatives change their mind for all of two seconds because I don't hear any of you bitching about outsourcing and simply saying it ought be illegal.

I think we ought ignore the law that marriage is between a man and a woman. While we're at it there are loads of laws we've all tacitly agreed at best are bullshit. I know, I know. ALIENated, D6fer you're both amazing men who obey the law all the time. While I personally disagree with the general sentiment and can honestly claim that the only time I steal is when I watch videos on youtube and with Japanese Anime Soundtracks. I love the Black Mages but seriously fuck that.. I'm quite certain that you could set up an operation (and turn a profit) where you made custom CD's for less than forty bucks. That said America has pretty much agreed that entertainers don't deserve a dime. If someone's got a stone I'm here just make sure you're less guilty than me when you toss.

I'm not sure we can claim that you average Conservative/Republican/SLAVE OWNER has a moral superiority over your average liberal/Democrat/capitalist. But in the market of ideas they are screwed. The reality is that America was damn near founded on the opposite ideal. People didn't move to America to escape liberals and socialists. They came to escape conservatives (who still at the time thought Kings and Queens were a good idea. The idea that you ought elect your leader was incredibly liberal at the time.) They also came because in America the inevitable end game of unfettered Capitalism hadn't been reached. The rich had yet to get control of everything. Until relatively recently the only thing you needed to do in America to be "middle class" was move a miles past where the last guy stopped and set up your farm. It's not nearly that simple today. You have to actually get a job and integrate into society.

Thats an amazing story.

Inscribed on the base of the statue of liberty are the words,

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I life my lamp beside the golden door.

The young man in that story seems to me to be everything that Americans believe they stand for.

As usual, you make a very good "Jon Stewart" kind of "liberal" argument. Republicans are
racist Nazis and Democrats are compassionate do-gooders. And all illegal immigrants are
potential college graduates who will go on to win the Nobel Prize in science or some such.
Tell that to the people along the border of Mexico. Yes, this country was founded and built
by immigrants and by people who came here against their wills, and by Chinamen who
worked on the railroads for rich white guys, blah blah blah. That was the way it was ... WAS
then. There was also a day that law breakers, horse thieves for example, were caught and
hanged from the nearest tree. That was the way it was ... WAS then. Things change,
circumstances change, and the rules change. To liken the criminals who pour across our
borders these days to the people who came here openly in the past, under different
circumstances, is ridiculous. Times have changed, and the rules have changed. More
recently, this country has become what it is because of the people who were born here,
the decendents of those original immigrants and slaves. Yes, we have added to our ranks,
but the best of those additions came here in the light of day, had to study our founding
documents, learn our language (ENGLISH), and maybe even pass a test to stay. Not every
person who robs a bank is a bad person, not every person who beats their wife is a bad
person, but where are we if we start ignoring laws that we do not agree with? I suppose
you could take a look at California and figure that one out. As a conservative, I would be
among the first to step up and say we need fewer laws, but I would be talking about
fewer STUPID laws that try to protect worms instead of farmers, that open the flood gates
to restore wetlands and flood people's homes, that force us to hire morons simply to meet
a quota, on and on and on. Liberals have no room to talk about the law when they want
to pass laws left and right that hinder the good and promote the bad simply because they
no longer know the difference, which is which. Yes, some good people slip across our
borders or are brought here by a relative, but there are also people coming across who
hijack large airplanes and fly them into large buildings and kill thousands of LEGAL
AMERICAN CITIZENS. I care more for those LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS than I do about
the LAW BREAKERS who sneak across our borders every day. How stupid would you think
the owners of an amusement park were if they just stood by and let people sneak in or
climb over the fence and come in for free. Unless you are a total idiot, you would think it
is absurd. However, those owners want people to come into the stadium, but they want
those people to line up at the front gates and pay their fair entry fee, to come the correct
way. Illegal immigration is just another issue that Liberals use to promote their real agenda,
making this a one-party, Big Brother run nation of moronic automatons who are told what to
do and when to do it.

alien, I think if we leave the right/left fight out of this we would find some common ground. I know when won't agree completely, but we'd get somewhere. I think border security is a separate but related issue. We don't have problems on our border with Canada, but they don't have a civil war going on like there effectively is in Mexico. But again, I don't think this is the same issue as immigration.

This is a case where I'm more of a free-marketer than you. I think if someone from another country wants to work in America, and a company here wants to hire them, then there should be a quick and easy process for them to come here.
