I was just watching one of those Michael Schiavello King of the Cage shows. You know the type. He puts a lot of enthusiasm in his voice and pretends that every fight on the card is as exciting as can be. They give you a fight card featuring nobody who is anywhere near anyone's top 10 and they call three of the matches world championship fights.
One of the guys, I forgot which, was a wrestler fighting a jiu jitsu fighter. The wrestler said that it is very common for a wrestler to beat a jiu jitsu fighter. I was wondering what planet the guy just flew in from. Not on this planet, Bunko.
Let's get this straight, liar. There's Spider Silva choking Chael Sonnen into unconsciousness. There's Frank Mir locking up Brock Lesnar before Lesnar learned jiu jitsu.
There's Royce Gracie triangle choking Dan Severn. Take two. There's Royce Gracie triangle choking Dan Severn. Are you listening dimwit? Here's another for you. There's Royce Gracie triangle choking Dan Severn. And if you weren't quite paying attention, there's Royce Gracie triangle choking Dan Severn.
Dan Severn was one of the greatest wrestlers in the world at the time. He weighed maybe 270. Royce Gracie weighed 170. And Royce Gracie triangle choked him.
Oh yeah, and one more example. Remember when Royce Gracie triangle choked Dan Severn? Did you see that fight? It was the single most memorable fight in MMA history. That skinny little guy on the bottom wrapped his legs around huge Dan Severn's neck and choked him out. Pretty amazing.
So, what was that absolute lying moron saying about wrestlers commonly beating jiu jitsu fighters? The only wrestler who can deal with a jiu jitsu fighter is a wrestler who has made himself a jiu jitsu fighter too. That's the law, carved in stone. Don't lie to me.
By the way, the wrestler in this King of the Cage "championship" match got his ass destroyed by the jiu jitsu fighter. He was unable to do a thing. The jitz guy took his back, put a leg triangle around the wrestler's waist, and choked him out. The fight was a one sided joke. The wrestler didn't even know enough to roll into the other guy's locked ankles to put pressure on the ankles to make him give up the leg triangle. All the guy knew was wrestling. Fat lot of good that will do ya. The "mixed" in mixed martial arts is Gracie jiu jitsu, and if you don't know it, go home, you're just deluding yourself that you can sport fight at a high level.
Hm, let me set it up differently.
If you could only learn one skill set jiu jitsu would be my pick. If you could be proficient in all of them, but only excel at one, wrestling would be my choice (assuming fights are in weight classes).
