Just a quick blog to say I had a great weekend. Both of my kids and one of their friends came to visit. I have my daughter often, but it's a special treat when my son comes to visit. Being a young adult man he usually wants to spend his weekends hanging out with friends.
I let them know up front that we needed to do as many things as possible to NOT spend money. As much as I'd like to splurge on them I have to hang onto my money until I know what is in my work future. They were cool with that. The boys went walking down town to look at the girls when they got here. Sweetie and I snuggled on the couch and watched TV.
Saturday the boys and I hung out at a couple of malls in the morning. Sweetie was being treated to a spa day as her birthday gift from me. She will be 17 on tuesday. I can't believe my baby girl is so close to being an adult. Anyhow, there I was wandering at the mall with two young men trailing after me. I did offer to sit with a cup of coffee while they explored, but they wanted me to come along! LOL I guess they're not used to being in the larger malls.
That afternoon we headed out to the beach. I couldn't figure out why there was so much traffic on the road. Tons of it. The beach I like to go to was also packed. It is highly unusual this late in the fall to find people out there in the afternoon. We crawled around on the rocks by the beach. I managed to get "stuck" on one of the rocks, and my kids took their usual pleasure in teasing me about having to rescue their mother.
We decided to hike down the coast a little. On our way we met people asking if we were there to see the whale. Not really, but since we assumed one was in the water near the coast we kept going. A little further down the trail another person mentioned that it was beached. Even more interesting. She also mentioned it was dead, but by then the boys were running down the trail to see the whale. Sweetie and I took out time since it was common knowledge that it was very smelly. We weren't disappointed. The poor thing had been struck by a ship and was pregnant. It died and was washed ashore where it expelled the baby. Disgusting and smelly, I couldn't bring myself to go stare at it and poke it like so many others. People were bringing small children to look at it. I really don't understand that.
Today I got talked into a trip to the park to play frisbee. I haven't played frisbee since I was a teenager but I am a good sport. We stopped in at the farmer's market for some fresh strawberries and kettle corn so that we'd have some snacks while we played. It was one of those perfect October days here. Warm with a nice breeze. I admit it, I was the first to give in.
Shortly after lunch I sent them back home. There is a ball game today and I knew the traffic might be heavy. Being young drivers I didn't want them to feel hurried or distracted. Then ..... nap time for the mother. :) It was a nice break from the stresses of the week. I laughed and goofed off, putting my worries aside for a couple of days. It was good for the soul.
sounds like fun....wha?? no whale pics?
